If you’ve struggled to lose weight and have been unsuccessful, you might want to
talk with your physician about weight loss surgery.
Our Weight Loss Surgery Program
at St. Mary’s Hospital of Superior offers two options: Roux-en Y gastric bypass
surgery and Lap-Band surgery.
Patients can begin to have real success in losing weight and keeping it off after
having these surgeries, and they also experience improvement in a range of weight-related
medical conditions. The surgery can be done on an outpatient basis.
Gastric Bypass is the most common weight-loss surgery technique in the United States.
The surgeon reduces the size of your stomach by stapling and dividing it.
In Lap-Band surgery, the surgeon fastens a hollow, inflatable silicone band around
the upper stomach. The band is placed using instruments inserted in the body through
small incisions. The band creates a new semi-separate stomach pouch that allows a slow passage of food through to the rest of your stomach.
Weight-loss surgery at is an extension of the SMDC Medical Center-Duluth Clinic
Weight Management Program.
