Pet Visitation |
Under certain
circumstances, for the well-being of our patients, pets are allowed to visit on
a limited basis. Pets should always be secured on a leash and supervised by an adult.
A pet visit must be approved by the patient’s physician and the nurse manager and
be conducted under the supervision of nursing personnel. If possible, the pet visit
should take place in a private, secure area to ensure that the pet does not jeopardize
the health, safety, comfort, treatment or well-being of others. If you wish a pet
visit, please talk with a nurse.
Animals accompanying people who have disabilities,
such as service dogs, are always allowed.

|
Private
Duty Nurse |
A private duty nurse
may be requested by a patient or family member. Such arrangements must be made directly
by the patient or family member with a private nursing agency. The patient or family
member assumes the cost for this service and should make arrangements with the agency
for payment. St. Mary’s Hospital of Superior assumes no responsibility for such
an arrangement and St. Mary’s nursing staff retain the primary responsibility for
all nursing care of the patient.

|
Smoking |
In the interest of the health and safety
of patients, visitors and employees, smoking is not allowed throughout all of our buildings, entrances or grounds.

Special Communication Needs - Hearing, Sight and Language |
If you are hearing-impaired,
St. Mary’s will provide, at no cost to you, a qualified language interpreter and
other auxiliary aids to offer you effective access to our healthcare services. Please
inform the registration interviewer, nurse or social worker if you wish an interpreter,
auxiliary aid or Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TDD).
If you are sight-impaired,
arrangements can be made to obtain materials in Braille or have a volunteer read
necessary information to you. Please notify the registration interviewer at the
time of admission or talk with your nurse or social worker regarding communication
services available to you.
If you or a family member speak a language other than
English, St. Mary’s will make every attempt to locate an interpreter. You may request
an interpreter through your nurse or social worker.

Telephones |
Telephones are available
in all patient rooms. For local calls: Dial 9, wait for second dial tone, then dial
the number. There is no charge for local telephone calls.
Long Distance: Dial 9
plus 0 (plus the area code if required) plus the number. An outside operator will
answer. Toll calls can be made collect or charged to your telephone credit card
number or home number. You may not charge a call to your hospital room.
Slumber
Service: In order that you may rest, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. our operators will restrict
your phone calls. You may still make outgoing calls during these hours. If an emergency
call comes to you between those hours, we will see that you get the call.
TDD: If
you are hearing-impaired, arrangements can be made for a TDD telephone to be placed
in your room. Your nurse or social worker will contact the switchboard operator
to make such arrangements.

Visitors |
|
Visiting hours usually are not restricted
except in the case of a patient's medical needs. Visiting hour guidelines are 11
a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Children under age 12 are welcome, but must be supervised by an
adult.
We offer these tips to make your visit a pleasant one for both visitor and
patient:
- For the protection of the patient, please postpone your visit until you
have completely recovered if you have a cough, fever or other condition that may
be contagious.
- Because we encourage patients to rest, we ask visitors to please
limit the length of their visit and to be aware of the number of visitors in the
room. (Two visitors in the room at a time is a good rule of thumb.)
- Patients may
request to have no visitors. If you see a “No visitors” sign posted on a patient’s
door, please respect the patient’s wishes. A note to the patient may be left at
the nurses’ station.
