As a nonprofit organization, St. Mary’s Hospital of Superior/Duluth Clinic-Superior
gives back to the community in many ways. We constantly strive to help others and
create a better community.
For example, we provide space for the Twin Ports Veterans Administration Clinic
so that military veterans from our region can receive medical care without traveling
to VA Clinics in Minneapolis or St. Cloud, Minn.
We're part of public health intiatives and our employees serve on the Douglas County Community Health Assessment Steering Committee. Click here to read the 2009 update on the Community Health Improvement Plan and efforts to address these priority areas: Overweight, obesity and lack of physical activity; mental health and mental disorders; and the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other substances.
Every fall we offer walk-in flu shot clinics for the public and we add evening hours
for people who can’t make it in during the day.
We participate in a number of health fairs and other community projects, including
the Harbor House Homeless Project, the Enbridge Health Fair, the Mariner Mall Health
Fair and the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life.”
We donate to Superior’s Fourth of July parade, organizations such as the Girl Scouts
and all-night grad parties at local high schools. We give in-kind donations as well.
One example is bingo prizes for a breakfast for seniors sponsored by the Poplar-Wentworth
Lions Club.
We provide office space, staff support, postage, meeting rooms and food for the
Northern Waters Parish Nurse Ministry.
We offer free meeting space for organizations, including:
- Veterans of Foreign Wars
- Grief support group
- Cancer support group
- Medica - Northland Family Program
- University of Wisconsin-Superior
- Veterans Administration
- Superior Area Ministerium
- Epilepsy Foundation
- Lucius Woods Performing Arts Center
We also provide no-cost cab and van vouchers for patients and their families who
need them.
