Medical Staff

St. Mary’s Hospital of Superior averages around 125 physicians on its staff, ranging from family practice doctors to medical specialists and subspecialists. The hospital’s open practice setting welcomes physicians who are not part of the SMDC Health System.

The local clinic employs eight Family Practice and Internal Medicine doctors who admit patients to the hospital and rotate through duties as a hospitalist – a doctor who only takes care of hospital patients.

About 100 Duluth Clinic physicians from SMDC’s downtown Duluth campus have hospital privileges at St. Mary’s Hospital of Superior as do another 17 physicians from the community. In addition, our Emergency Department has six physicians.

St. Mary’s Hospital of Superior maintains stringent standards for its medical staff. Our requirements include: Must have an M.D., D.O. or equivalent degree; hold a valid license to practice medicine in Wisconsin; adhere to the ethics of their profession; and be certified by the specialty board in the area in which they practice or be eligible to take the certification examination.
